Who Admits to Bootcamps and How?

At Patika.dev, we open about 5-7 bootcamps per month and receive applications from hundreds of people for each bootcamp. Unfortunately, we do not yet have the capacity to accept everyone who applies. Therefore, we put applicants through an evaluation process.

Search Note: We previously shared some tips from the people who conducted Bootcamp interviews with you. Our post featuring advice directly from people in the business kitchen about increasing your chances of being admitted to bootcamps wherein. If you're just starting out coding, Bootcampler may not be right for you. For beginners in coding a guide like this we prepared.

We are aware that this evaluation process is mysterious to some of our candidates. To remove this mystery, we wanted to share this post with you.

We have extracted some statistics based on the data of our seven most recent Bootcamps, whose evaluation processes have been completed. In this article, we will share and comment on these figures regarding who is admitted to Bootcamps and how assessments are conducted.

The main stages of our evaluation process are as follows:

  1. Application form
  2. Technique test
  3. Interview

Application form process

The reason why our Bootcamps can be free is that companies sponsor Bootcamps to recruit Bootcamp graduates. That is why we expect candidates to be able to start full-time work in a short period of time.

Therefore, we prioritize candidates who have already graduated, are looking for a job or will graduate within a year rather than candidates who have more than one year to graduate from university. Nearly a third of applicants who apply to our bootcamps are eliminated because they have more than a year to graduate. It is open to everyone for these candidates Learning from our Patika.dev platform and that people of all ages can participate Encoding Challenges we recommend.

Technical testing process

Technical testing is the most basic tool we use to measure candidates' coding skills. Our technical test consists of multiple choice questions and Coding Challenge questions provided via the Coderbyte platform. Our Coding Challenge questions require you to solve a problem by coding and make the code you generate work correctly. Sample Coderbyte Challenges from here you can reach.

Regretfully, About 55% of the candidates we send the technical test are eliminated because they never solved our coding test and 5% because they got 0 points. Some of our candidates who solve multiple choice questions also struggle with our Coding Challenge questions. Approximately 45% of those who solved the test received 0 points from the Coding Challenge.

Solving the technical test, and especially in addition to multiple choice questions, solving the Coding Challenge and getting a high score on this test greatly increases a candidate's chances. To increase the success of our candidates who are challenged in this regard in the technical test Our Data Structures and Algorithms course Get them and Hackerrank In the field of algorithms We recommend them to do the exercises with challengelar. We also made a Youtube post just for you to increase your success in technical tests, from here you can reach.

Our candidates admitted to our bootcamps:

The interview process

After the elimination based on the technical test, the next elimination process begins. After the technical test, we prioritize among our candidates who have scored well according to the answers given in the application form and the criteria requested by the sponsoring company.

Some candidates better demonstrate in the open-ended questions on the application form that they have worked for a long time on the topics learned in Bootcamp, the Bootcamp sponsoring company has done a good research. Some candidates are making their Github and LinkedIn profiles better prepared for professional life.

On the other hand, sponsoring companies may sometimes want to prioritize candidates who want to move to certain cities, and sometimes people who have graduated from certain departments or universities.

After looking at all these criteria, we invite a group of candidates for an interview. Some interviews are conducted by the sponsoring company according to its own criteria. Some of them we carry out.

Elimination criteria in this interview can vary. In general, some of the criteria we look at in interviews are:

Approximately 55% of the candidates we invite for interviews have been accepted to our Bootcamps.

Our candidates who score well on the technical test but who are eliminated before or after the interview are highly likely to be admitted to other Bootcamps. We advise our candidates to apply to other Bootcamps that may be suitable for them.

All of our candidates try their luck by applying for 2-3 Bootcamps on average.

As a result of this whole process, we are sending acceptance emails to candidates who have been accepted into our Bootcamp program. In some of our Bootcamps, we create a reserve admission list and send a later acceptance email to some of our candidates from within this list.

Candidates who have been accepted

Our candidates admitted to our bootcamps are on average 24-25 years old. Our younger and older candidates have also been admitted to our Bootcamps

93% of the participants had a bachelor's or master's degree.

Our Bootcamp participants 37% live in Istanbul, 22% in Izmir or Ankara, and 41% live in other cities. We have participants from many cities such as Canakkale, Hakkari, Konya, Tekirdağ, Aksaray and Giresun. Most of our participants from other cities had agreed to move to the city where the sponsoring company had their offices after Bootcamp.

The experience level of our participants also varies. Our participants 80% have less than one year of internship, freelance or professional experience. 23% of applicants have no internship, freelance or professional experience. Candidates without experience declare that they have improved themselves through their courses at the university or through their own studies and demonstrate this knowledge in technical tests and interviews.

Our Bootcamp participants 63% graduated from university departments related to computers or software. But there are also Bootcamp participants who come and develop themselves from very different fields. For example, we had participants from different fields such as “Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation”, “Aviation Management”, “Italian Language and Literature”, “Theology”, “Dentistry”, “Civil Engineering”, “Architecture”.

This data clearly shows that you can use your coding/programming skills as a springboard for Bootcamp applications. You can compensate for the disadvantages you already have (e.g. lack of experience, graduation difference) by increasing your coding skills. That's why investing your coding skills in your Bootcamp preparation strategy is the most consequential step.

As a result of this selection process, our participants get the opportunity to work directly in leading companies in the sector such as Trendyol, Hepsiburu, Garanti Bankası.

We look forward to seeing you at our Bootcamps! Open to open bootcamps from here you can browse!
